PARA is excited to announce our new Board of Directors! After several years serving as our fearless leader, Debra Kahookele has stepped down as President. In addition, also after several years of service, Vice President Lisa Camarillo has also stepped down. Both will remain on the Board and continue to be actively involved in PARA. During their time, they, along with several other members and the Playground Committee oversaw the building, design, and funding of the Promenade Square Park playground, the only playground in Downtown Long Beach. Obviously, they left some pretty big shoes to fill, but we are still excited they will remain with the board and continue to work on playground improvements, such as adding additional seating and shading.
The new President was voted on in our last meeting, and Stuart Takehara, formerly the Secretary of PARA, has taken the reigns. Stepping up to temporarily fill the gap is Past President Debra Kahookele, who will serve as Secretary. The Vice President position will remain vacant for the time being. Stuart and Deb are joined by existing Board Member and Treasurer Kristin Dunn, along with Lisa Camarillo, Peter Johnson, Joen Garnica, and Maxx Sophia.
PARA is looking for new board members and committee members to join the team. If you live in Downtown Long Beach, you can join one of our committees, including the Marketing/Communications committee, Special Events Committee, or Board Development Committee. And, if you live in the PARA district, consisting of Pacific Avenue to Long Beach Blvd and Ocean Blvd to 3rd Street, consider getting involved as a committee member and/or joining the Board of Directors.
We look forward to many great events happening in the rest of 2018 and the years ahead.
